Brooklyn-based designer Fleet Hower has reinvented both the manufacturing process and branding of his 3D puzzles, LOCKNESTERS. After designing and 3D printing each piece on his group of MakerBot Replicator 2s, the 3D puzzle is sanded down and finished with a multi-step tumbling process, first in a ceramic-water mixture, and then in a cask of walnut shells. The outcome of this process is an extremely smooth and glossy 3D printed designer toy, an uncharacteristic look and feel for something produced in standard PLA. Hower is currently selling his 5-piece Bear puzzle on the LOCKNESTERS website. Read more at 3DPrint.com: https://3dprint.com/143796/fleet-hower-locknesters/
