A research team from Carnegie Mellon University has found fatal flaws with 3D printed titanium, using deep X-rays to reveal a large and randomly distributed amount of porosity in the material. Although this research shouldn’t affect titanium implants made for medical applications, it is especially alarming for the aerospace industry, which often uses the material for mission critical components.
