Nursing students in Professor Aneesha Jean's Community and Public Health nursing course at Caldwell University in Newark, New Jersey ended a powerful semester's experience working with HIV/AIDS patients at the Broadway House for Continuing Care with a gift. They found while working with the clinic's patients that a factor impacting patient adherence to medication schedules was the stigma associated with the traditional medicine bottle. For people who must take upwards of 25 or 30 pills a day in order to maintain their health, having negative associations with the containers sometimes meant they would not be able to take care of themselves as they need to. Therefore the students created a new design for a pillbox using 3D printing technology and presented them to the patients.
