In 2013, Optomec hired 53-year-old Thomas Nash as a paid intern, and a year later rehired him as a full-time employee, despite mediocre performance reviews. When his performance didn't improve, the company let him go - and he sued them for age discrimination. His case was quickly dismissed due to lack of evidence that his termination had anything to do with age, but it does raise questions about age discrimination in the workplace, particularly in the youth-dominated tech industry.
