A new CYBER team, constituted by Stratasys, Altair Engineering, and the University of Michigan Orthotics and Prosthetics Center, wants to reinvent not only how Ankle Foot Orthotics (AFOs) are made but how quickly they are made, too. The first test case for this 3D printed orthotics mission will be through the Veterans Administration in Ann Arbor, with the eventual goal of making these orthotics services national. Also, given the growing number of veterans requiring orthotics devices, Medicare savings could potentially be $1.3B annually once this program is deployed through the whole network. By 2020 it is estimated that 7.3 million Americans will require use of some kind of orthotic device, so there will be a demand for quickly made and conveniently accessible high quality orthotics devices.
