Pro-skier, inventor, and filmmaker Nicolas Vuignier is back as promised with a ‘how we did it’ regarding his fanciful action selfie device—the 3D printed Centriphone. While it might be easy to say that he’d just thrown this invention together with some cardboard, string, an iPhone and an app, if you watch the video, you’ll see that he went through eight different versions, modifying the Centriphone in terms of size, ‘wings,’ materials, and more. Once satisfied, Vuignier completed a digital design for the ‘rig’ itself and 3D printed it on his Ultimaker. He is now offering the files for download as an open-source project, and invites feedback and improvements. You can also pre-order the device through his website.
