Researchers at the University of California, San Diego have found a much better way to measure pulmonary function for study purposes in the lab. While traditional methods employed a specific ventilation imaging able to measure functionality, it wasn’t conducive to the lab setting. Using 3D printing, the team was able to design a new attachment piece in SOLIDWORKS, and then 3D print it on their Makerbot Replicator 2. Overall, they have a better functioning product for measuring pulmonary data and it can be customized, made quickly—and at a fraction of the cost.
