Two very brave artists have taken it upon themselves to see that a bust of Nefertiti has been returned to Cairo, her rightful home and place of the statue’s discovery. Even if it is not the real 3,300-year-old piece, they have managed to make a nearly perfect replica due to scanning and 3D printing it. They have also released the files to the public so that anyone can make their own Nefertiti. The museum in Berlin which holds the original, where they made their furtive scan, has just refused to respond. The artists hope this will put pressure on other museums to ‘repatriate’ works that belong in their rightful countries.
