Blue Robotics set out to send an unmanned solar-powered boat from Los Angeles to Hawaii, but it had a hard time acquiring the right thruster for the job. So company founder Rusty Jehangir decided to collaborate with Sculpteo to design and 3D print one of his own. The thruster is a big success, and the company was able to raise over $100K in a Kickstarter campaign. This new thruster design allows water to flow through both the propeller and the motor; this is the feature that lets the drone stay successfully submerged underwater. The company also offers many more products for all of your 3D printed submarine drone needs. Sculpteo and Blue Robotics are changing the face of marine robotics by reinventing a newer, and more affordable, 3D printed thruster -- and other necessary parts, too.
