Are solar panels worth the up front cost for a house?

the only real ongoing cost is the invertor apparently needs changing every 10 years or so.

But even 16 panels will supply all your electricity and give you money back as well.

Alas I live in a house with a pyrimidal roof and none of the dozen or so companies who all said - 'yeah no problem', over the phone, could do anything for us.

What we need are small triangular panels we can cover the whole roof in.
But nobody seems to make them :-(
