New 3D Printed Device Allows for Disease Diagnosis with Smartphone
Researchers at UCLA have developed a 3D printed device that attaches to a smartphone and then can read ELISA trays in order to make a diagnosis. Traditionally ELISA tray reading has required large expensive machines which are not feasible for rural areas or third world countries. This 3D printed device which attaches to a Nokia smartphone can read data and then transfer the information to UCLA servers which then use a learning algorithm to decide if a sample tests positive for a bacteria or virus.
