The Victoria Museum in Australia has decided to 3D scan the entire head and gill area of a giant basking shark which originally weighed a staggering 7,700 pounds. Once the shark is scanned the museum will forever preserve it by printing out a replica of it for public display later this year or next year. They used a local company called Qubic to do all the scanning, and the process was rather quick, yet a bit smelly. More details on this process and just how rare this type of fish is in the region can be found here: http://3dprint.com/78947/3d-print-basking-shark/
