My dual extruder for the Monoprice Creator X rebrand is $245 here:

    http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2

But that does not include the plastic carriage designed to hold dual extruders.

If you look carefully, you'll see that the 2 extruders share a single aluminum bar like this one:

    http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2

If you can get the dual plastic carriage, you can transfer the parts you have now and add the extruder feed motor, fan and heatsink for the 2nd extruder:

ETA: you can print the dual extruder plastic carriage from here: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:611173 but you will probably need to adjust the belt.

    Fan: http://www.monoprice.com/Product?c_i...seq=1&format=2

    Other parts available elsewhere.

Of course you still need the circuit board which controls dual extruders and the firmware which recognizes them.

    Maybe you already have those.

Hmm, probably cheaper to buy the dual extruder and use the existing machine for spares :-)

You would be better using it for a while before making that decision. I have a dual extruder and only ever use one. The other has a thermocouple fault that bothers me so much that it's been like that almost a year. I will probably just take it off and fit a Peltier pump where it was to keep the aluminium bar cool.

he's got a point. Preparing a print for dual extrusion is a pita.
And most things just need the one extruder.

Unless you're doing a lot of prints that need supports you probably won't use both extruders at the same time very often.

I've used my 2nd extruder mainly to print with NinjaFlex w/o having to unload and load the right extruder.
