Maurizio Porfiri, professor of mechanical engineering at New York University's Polytechnic School of Engineering, and his student team of researchers in the Dynamical Systems Lab, have created 3D printed robotic fish for the means of better research using fish in studying human and animal behavior. The 3D printed robots act as predators always giving the same response (rather than previous erratic behavior from real predatory fish) as real fish are in the tank with them, giving researchers a chance to study and measure anxiety behaviors.
