The University of Maryland is hosting its grand opening for a brand new MakerBot Innovation Center today, April 23rd. With an impressive 48 MakerBot Replicator 3D printers in the new center, the university will now offer access to close to 100 3D printers on campus. Part of UMD's 30 Days of Entrepreneurship, the grand opening festivities include a talk given by Local Motors' CEO, Jay Rogers. The center is also being touted as a way to accelerate development in the school's Startup Shell, which encourages student-founded business startups, often relying on rapid prototyping. Incoming freshman to the Clark School of Engineering at UMD will also utilize the MakerBot Innovation Center in a required introductory course, leading to fast familiarity with the technology.
