Usoing HIP dissolvable filament for support
I bought a roll of HIP filament from IC3D to test as a support material for ABS. Results were very good.
1) I printed several models at the same temperature 230/110 that I use for ABS. Same quality print. I have not checked for shrinkage or warping yet.
2) Printed several models using ABS for model and HIP for support. I used both Simplify3d and Meshmixer support schemes. I was particularly concerned about supports that start at some point on the model as the base. They printed well
3) I removed as much support material as I could by hand; it separated quite easily and then dunked the model in limonene to dissolve then rest. I don't know how long it actually took but when I came back to it the next day the support was dissolved. A few little soft pieces remained which were easily removed with a pick
I bought a roll of purple since I do not use that color and it made it easy to see which was the support. HIP will not work with PLA.
Do bed magnets deteriorate.
