3D Systems Shows of their CeraJet 3D printer Through 5 Artists
3D Systems' technology has been put to use to bring artists' visions to life. Kate Blacklock, of the Rhode Island School of Design, contacted 3D Systems regarding her plans to exhibit 3D printed ceramic sculptures, as she would need access to a ceramic 3D printer--luckily for Blacklock and her team, 3DS has been working on the CeraJet printer for some time. The CeraJet system utilizes 3DS' Color Jet Printing (CJP) technology to print ceramic objects with intricate designs, all ready to be fired and glazed. Kate Blacklock, Jonathan Bonner, Chris Gustin, Tayo Heuser, and Andrew Raftery, the artists displaying in the HIfire RESolutions: 3D Printing with Clay exhibit, worked with 3D modeling expert Matthew Paquin to turn their ideas into viable renderings. Cool stuff! There's another exhibition of 3D printed ceramics I saw in San Francisco recently, although they were mostly using slip extruders rather than the Cerajet. There's still a week or so left of that show, if anyone's on the west coast instead of the east: http://www.sfmcd.org/exhibitions/cur...ing-the-earth/
