3D printing can be used to create incredible detail on small-scale figures, and has proven very popular with action figure design. Wayne Doz, an art director and illustrator working now for London-based beyond and with infographics featured on Pottermore.com, recently created his first completely 3D modeled and printed figure. He'd challenged himself to a piece with moving parts and created Captain Jonah, a space adventurer...who died in space. After his death, Captain Jonah became the CATASTRONAUT, having succumbed to catastrophe with a smashed visor and clamped air hose. Designed using Autodesk 123D and Sculptris, then printed first via 3D Hubs and then by Doz's new Createbot mini 3D printer, the CATASTRONAUT design is now available as well on Thingiverse, ready to posthumously take space by storm.
