While Shapeways 3D Tools was released in January with much popularity, they’ve added two new features to help their design artists rock out the 3D prints even more spectacularly. Bounding box visualization helps the user to scale, size, and get perspective on the model so that they can choose the proper material for 3D printing and make sure it’s going to print as they hoped. With part count visualization, Shapeways is hoping to help 3D designers avoid the pitfalls of loose shells, which are disconnected parts that can occur unintentionally when the designer is dealing with multiple pieces in a design. The use of color is the simple indicator in both new features, with multiple part designs turning red when they are too large, and loose shells being indicated as an entirely separate color from the model.
