Upscale 3D Printed Pens Hit Kickstarter

Kostas Metaxas is a renaissance man of sorts who works in fields from film-making to product design. His latest effort is a series of 3D printed writing instruments which can be output in everything from resins to fine finished metallic materials. The 3D printed pens are available with both fountain and rollerball nibs. Via his Kickstarter campaign for the pens, they're priced from a relatively modest $39 (at a now sold-out early bird level) all the way up to $1,500 for the top of the line metallic versions. The pricing structure on these things is outrageous. Anything more than $20-$30 exceeds practicality and enters the realm of novelty.

Yeah, I agree, at this point the design either has to be so novel it's worth the money or costs need to come down for materials.
