I've met Bathsheba a couple of times and she's actually rather brilliant and entertaining. Not sure what her motivation is in terms of making money, but she has a very cool, bi-coastal life going on...
Yeah, I agree, at this point the design either has to be so novel it's worth the money or costs need to come down for materials.

I find it thoroughly amazing that this kind of work gets funded. I'm glad, but amazed. Pure research is often ignored these days in favor of projects with more immediate applications in mind.
