Time Capsule in Baltimore to Have 3D Printed Tinkets Within

Baltimore native Michael Raphael offered his 3D scanning and printing services to the Mount Vernon Place Conservancy when the city’s famous Washington Monument was under renovation. His company, Direct Dimensions, Inc., made 3D-printing history--and American history, for that matter--when it replaced objects in the original cornerstone time capsule with 3D printed replicas of components of the statue of George Washington that tops the column. I love stories like this one. I hope more artifacts like this can be 3D printed and used to preserve history, even just for an as-it-was-then look so future studies can look back and follow the timeline of item degradation by comparing with such an in-depth look.
