    Blobs on prints

It is common to have people ask why the edges of their prints have a line of blobs of material running from the bottom to the top of the print, disfiguring an otherwise even surface. I found this video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dihvAQR7LQg from HYREL 3D which shows why the line is formed. Don't concern yourself with the main topic of the video, which is fun in itself, but watch as the Play-Doh is printed. You'll notice that every time the printer rises from one layer to the next, a blob of material is left behind as the extrusion stops. As the print continues, you can see these blobs start to form the unwanted line.

The cause of this problem is quite simple to explain. The slicer has not been instructed to randomize the start point of each layer. I know that there is a check-box in Slic3r that allow you to select for randomized start points. If you use another slicer, see if you can find that control, and use it.
