Syringe pumps are most often used in chemical or biomedical research, but this open-source version could easily be used to extrude pastes for 3D printing applications or as part of a 3D bioprinter for outputting liquid, biological materials. Collaboratively-designed under an open source license, the Openpump project is the work of developers around the world and due to the licensing of the pump and its hardware, it can be modified to fit a variety of applications. A large share of the work was done through Swansea University in Wales and at Michigan Technological University in the US. If you want to read more about the pump or contribute to the project, you can do that here: http://3dprint.com/31738/open-source-syringe-pump/
