Shapeways Teams with Nervous System to 3D Print Amazing Dress in One Piece

3D printing has some truly impressive applications, but not all have proven especially viable. Uses in clothing have largely been artistic more than wearable or functional... but that may all be about to change! Shapeways and design studio Nervous System have recently teamed up, and they've worked together to create a brand new system to produce a functional, wearable piece of clothing. Using Kinematics Cloth, a 4D printing system, a foldable, hinged, interconnected series of modules allow for movement and form. The piece comes out of the 3D printer fully ready for wear, having been printed in a folded pattern that fits into the build envelope. Check out details and specifics on this exciting new project, complete with videos of the dress being worn: http://3dprint.com/29151/4d-printed-dress-kinematics/

    Pretty bloody amazing...

I've had a machine for almost 2 years now, and I'd say I've printed maybe 1% of the possible implementations that exist.. XD

That is indeed very impressive, though it's also a very see-through dress... Modesty aside, it looks fairly comfortable and flowing.

Nervous System, a progressive digital design and production company, has outdone themselves in the 3D and 4D printing arena, making improvements to their Kinematics fashion line, with their second version of the 4D printed dress. The concept is that with tens of thousands of interlocking panels or modules they are able to print a solid piece that allows for great flexibility and light weight. The second version of the dress has even more of the panels, one thousand of them, and reduces the hinges. Even more fluidity is allowed, and the dress weighs even less. Nervous System will debut the improved version of the 3D printed Kinematics dress at International CES in Las Vegas this week.
