    Obama Gets 3D Printed

In a video released on December 2, 2014 by the Smithsonian Institution, you can watch the data collection for the creation of the 3D printed portrait bust of President Obama. This use of advanced technology to capture the President’s likeness adds to the traditional artistic representations and plaster cast life masks that have been created of prior presidents. Rather than sitting quietly while breathing through straws piercing wet plaster, President Obama merely smiled into the high resolution sports cameras and let the scanners pick up the data. Having actively embraced this technology at the White House Maker Faire, it seems only fitting to have it used to create the presidential portrait bust. 3DPrint.com recently had the chance to talk to Dennis Martin about the recently created 3D printed bust of President Obama. Martin is a member of AutoDesk's Reality Solutions Group, which worked as a team to create the bust. The interview covered the bases surrounding the process of making a 3D printed bust and the artistry involved with it.
