In September, a new award for the additive manufacturing world entered the scene. In a collaboration between the US-based Association for Manufacturing Technology (AMT) and the German Machine Tool Builders' Association (Verein Deutscher Werkzeugmaschinenfabriken, or VDW), the all-new International Additive Manufacturing Award (IAMA) recognize outstanding contributions to the use of additive manufacturing in industrial applications. Accepting submissions through December 31st, 2014, the award is looking for innovative and implementable uses of additive manufacturing technology and methods across the world. In the first tier of judging, the field will be narrowed to 20 top submissions. The second round of judging will consist of 10 experts across several fields selecting the winner based on a rubric of qualifications, with the winning individual or team receiving a $20,000 cash prize and $80,000 media package. The winner will be announced at the Manufacturing for Growth (MFG) meeting in Orlando, Florida in March.
