Future Cities Lab, a San Francisco-based design studio, has produced a piece entitled Lightswarm. This installation is currently on display in the lobby of the Yerba Buena Arts Center. Each module of the sweeping installation was created from 3D printed components and laser cut skin. The lights are programmed to respond in real time to audio data collected from the lobby and the city beyond and transform that information into shifts in color and intensity of the light produced.
