Florida-based Ottermatics, a design company led by Aleksey Matyushev and Kevin Russell, challenged themselves to develop a new wine aerator, getting away from the fairly typical vinturi type often seen on the market. To generate rapid prototyping of their proposed technology -- turbulating, which slowly tosses the wine to add air in -- they turned to their in-house Solidoodle 4 3D printer. In just two days and nine iterations, they found a viable prototype design that bested a market-leading acrylic aerator in a blind taste test at a wine bar.
