3D Printed Lion Stop Frame Film

You may recall back in April the Bears on Stairs animation that a creative agency called DBLG produced with multiple 3D printed models. Well one recent graduate in England decided to create his own film with a lion this time. Using a Stratasys Fortus 360 printer he printed out 10 different frames of the lion's run cycle. He then photographed the models from several angles and produced a little film. More details and the actual film created by this student can be found here: http://3dprint.com/17998/3d-printed-stop-motion-lion/

What do you guys think? Below are the 10 different models he printed representing each frame of the run cycle:

It was cool with the polar bear because it interacted with the stairs, this is really easy to do yourself.

If anyone has poser, Blender, 3DSmax or really any 3D animation program, you can export single frame meshes of the animations. So you simply go to frame 1,. Export all body parts, weld at seams and export to OBJ.

Then you go to frame 2, and you do the same, until you have finished the run cycle.

What's less impressive, is they used a central beam to keep the cat upright, rather than actually glueing or printing it out on a base, which would look much better. That tail would have needed supports, so why not print on a base with supports.

Whilst the central exam might not be impressive, it must be remembered that not all projects are led by aesthetics. In this instance the main concerns and restraints were time, budget and versatility. It was the intention here to work quickly to produce a working sketch model, with limited funds.

Originaly drawn attached to a base, this was removed, as it reduced the printing bill by a 1/3, and also dramatically cut down on the over all print time. Budget and time, are factors are often not considered, and are an important aspect in 3d printing, particularly for those just engaging in the medium.

The Central beam, also allows gave us the option to reuse the models in a secondary more mechanical project, with out having to create or print a 2nd set.

Now the project has been realised and completed, we have been able to obtain more funds and print time, to look at a more refind project.

Thanks for the explanation Simon, was each lion printed with supports?

Yes Geoff, but again with the consideration towards cost and build time, the supports where built around the figures being horizontal / on their side, thus reducing the over all build height.

3D printing work required time and you have to be quick enough to learn new design or create one. The best essay writing service uk reviews always share some best work with us and I always hire them for work.
