Advice on Geeetech i3 pro B Please...
Ok So here goes(apologies of in wrong section btw)
I am not new to actual 3d printing but I am new too modding, tweaking etc..
Today we picked up a working Geeetech i3 Pro b of Freecycle...
Everythings there just needs a clean and a bit of TLC..
We got it as one it was FREE and two so we can learn how to mod etc with out fear of damaging our others(monoprice) printers...
Basically it is free so not too bothered if we break it. In the end we will learn something anyway.
So heres my questions
1.best firmware (no idea whats on it) with configs etc ??
2.recommended upgrades??(looks completely stock currently)
3.best addons and tweaks.
4.Is there a dedicated group for the i3?
5.Is the geeetech i3 the same as the Prusa I3?
Any advice suggests are welcome
thank you for responding etc.Last edited by lohtse; 12-18-2024 at 10:58 AM.

As far as learning, I hear you Purchased my 1st 3D printer years ago, it was so interesting, I watched it 3D Print entire models in fascination.
Now retired 5 years just purchased two Anycubic Kobra 3 combo Color 3D Printers, Hear that doing any like this is great for cognitive functions.
The longer you can, do because it can happen to everyone and as an active person could not stand being glued to a TV for the rest of my life.
I use my 3D Printers to make Halloween treats, repair broker no longer available parts ect.
I use it to keep my mind going, use it to help spread my knowledge to all the forums, like Fix Ya to keep my memory of how to fix things
Need help I'am Here
However this is a 3D Printer forum want to keep it this way, other forums other subjects.

I created my first model knowing very little about Cad, I heard about Fusion 360 Free for Hobbyist downloaded and installed to software.
Knowing very little about the firmware of how to use it decided to get help from youtube.
Finding many instruction videos started building with Learn Fusion 360 or Die Trying to build my model.
Started with a rectangle box cut out the center to create a open box, after this I learned every step as I went along.
Now this is not the best way to learn a how to create a case for a 3D Printer controller board though it worked for me. Maybe it will work for you. Created this case in less than a half day.
Starting with just an ideal
Need a controller case for my 3D Printer, controller is this big studs are this far apart and as I went told myself looks good stopped at a rectangle box for controller.
Later decided this is to square wanted smoother corners fan and vents holes, wanted to be able to put aluminum foil duct tape allowing for EFI protection.
I went through the steps one at a time, when I got stuck searched you-tube Fusion 360 how to make the next ideal then continued.
Have created more than 10 model to date getting faster on every model.

1. best firmware (no idea whats on it) with configs etc ??
One : Marlin version 2 is my favorite others prefer RepRap, Repetier, Klipper, and more
It is all in what you want to use.
2. recommended upgrades??(looks completely stock currently)
The printer is a good one if you find it vibrates fix the vibration
There are so many preferences you could be working on it forever an all you need is a printer that does what you want to do print good.
3. best addons and tweaks.
Two : Three : maybe some more Familiar could answer these.
4. Is there a dedicated group for the i3?
Four : There are many 3D Printer forums.
5. Is the Geeetech i3 the same as the Prusa I3?
Five : Yes and so are my Hictops, the Enders the list goes on and on.
As when I purchased my count them one... two ..... three..... four ...... five...... and six printers and a CNC
they all have problems and I fix them as they need to not until or I would be always fixing never printing or engraving.
An old saying if it ain't Broke, Don't Fix It.Last edited by Roberts_Clif; 12-24-2024 at 04:27 PM.
