I have been saying for some time now that 3D printers are an incredible learning tool. The hands-on experience provided by them are incredible. The American Museum of Natural History in New York City has been the venue of an interesting 3D scanning and printing project for students. Basically students needed to take pictures via a 3D scanner of various fossils, and then use those pictures to construct a 3D model of each bone, prior to printing them out and reconstructing each dinosaur. More details on this incredible learning experience can be found here: http://3dprint.com/13383/dinosaur-3d-print-scan/

In my opinion schools should be doing similar projects themselves. The benefits of this type of project are amazing as the students enjoy learning. Opinions?
