Duplicator i3, what are YOU doing for out of filament sensors?

I really wanted to be able to monitor out of filament at the extruder as i have had multiple occasions where my filament has broken closer to the extruder than the filament spool. I designed and mounted my switch atop the extruder but it limited my z height to 160. I cannot see another way to get the switch close to the extruder and have a semi straight shot into the extruder. What are you guys doing? This is what I designed but I'm using another design for now that has the switch up top under my filament spool.
    Thanks
    Dave

I always make sure I have enough filament before I start a print.

Well that's helpful.. I did fabricate a mount for a switch and it works well. I just would really like to move that filament sensor to where it breaks most often. It's not for running out as much as breaking.
