why would any streal print volume ?

Should be as simple as just dropping the extruder on top.

Can you post pics of the hotend and carriage and the extruder.

Pictures from promotional literature never show the stuff you want to see in any detail :-)

The hotend is hard up against a mounting plate. Most direct mount extruders need a bit more space, so you lose a bit of space, typically in the Y-direction. Mine loses around 12mm in the Y-direction. You can recover this by mounting the bed offset.

Easiest way to mount a direct extruder so you don't lose any space is to stick the motor and extruder up high, above mounting plate, with a short length of PTFE to get to the hotend.

The disadvantage is that you can't print too fast, because it's a big lump of extruder mounted high about the carriage.

    Ah - I didn't read the explanation.

Personally I''d make my own bracket and pretty sure I could get around having to cut anything.
There is ALWAYS another way to do something - and often an easier and simpler one.

But alas - i have no pictures of the existing mounting to work with ;-)
