What is the best way to make the gaps of 3D printed pieces invisible when joining?

Hi, I need to print a rectangular wall-like structure. As it is too big for printer's build plate, I printed them separately in four pieces. The problem is that when I put them together to form a rectangular, visible vertical junctions are seem clearly. Why the gaps of the printed pieces are big? Any suggestions on what can I do to make the gaps invisible? I use PLA and PETG.
