There has been lot of work done on understanding the influence of slicing thickness, orientation etc. on the final mechanical properties of part fabricated using additive manufacturing.
Just wondering, is there any influence of cross-section area on the final mechanical properties. To my understanding, if cross-section area is more than certain threshold value (to accommodate laser diameter/spot diameter), it may not matter much. But is there any evidence about how the power density should be changed for slices with higher cross-section area comparing the smaller ones to realize good fusion across the layers. What happens if the cross-section changes abruptly across the slices, should there be any change in power intensity?
