James Dyson Foundation Providing Grants to Schools for 3D printers and More

The James Dyson Foundation, yes it was founded by the Vacuum cleaner 67 year old Vacuum Cleaner company founder, has been providing substantial grants to Schools in Britain as a way to hopefully cut back on the dropout rate in the country.

For instance, the foundation provided $125,000 to the Hayesfield Girl's school so that they could purchase 6 3D printers and several other tools. Many believe that the education system, both in Britain and America, need reform to prepare students for the real world of today, not the world of the early 20th century like the current system does. What do you think? Should every classroom have a 3D Printer? Should more programs like this become available?

I am new to a school that has a growing STEM initiative and is moments away from purchasing their first 3D printer. As a Science teacher and Technology Integration Specialist I think programs that help fund this kind of initiate is wonderful. Personally, I would love some extra money to fund different materials to print with, a second printer and possible even some training for the teachers. Helping faculty with the integration of CAD software is something I have dipped my toes in, but bringing in a professional would be game changing. I hope that if more programs (grants) like the one above become available I will find out in time to apply.
