Is 3mm 3D printer filament on the way out?

It seems as though all the new 3D printers are utilizing 1.75mm filament. Do you think that 3mm will no longer be produced in a few years? Honestly I'm not sure why anyone would want to use 3mm, just decreases the resolution.

I thought it went the opposite direction. I thought all of the early printers used 1.75mm filament but now most of them are using 3.0mm filament. Maybe I have this wrong, but that is what believe at the moment. And certainly, on eBay, you can find more 3.0mm filament than 1.75mm filament for sale.

3mm is the old stuff and will eventually fade out. you see more of it on ebay i think becuase people are trying to unload it. 3mm just gives less control of the extrusion.
