The Smithsonian Museum in DC will now feature several 3D printed copies of rare fossils. One of the most interesting pieces is a whale fossil which was fund in Chile. The fossil is very large, measuring 20 feet in length. Via 3D printing, with the help of 3D Systems, the Museum is able to show the fossil at the exact size and shape as the real thing, even though the real thing is thousands of miles away in Chile. There are also 20 other pieces at the museum, and it's free to get in to look at the exhibits. More details can be found here: http://3dprint.com/5515/3d-printed-fossils-smithsonian/

The museum is also offering a way to interact with their exhibits online in 3D.
