XYZPrinting to Introduce new line of 3D Printers

The manufacturer of the da Vinci 3D printers is planning to announce a new line of 3D printers in 2 weeks time. It should be interesting to see what this new line of printers includes. It is said to include "new affordable 3D printing technology". I wonder what this will mean. Will we see an entirely new type of 3D printing technology, or will they introduce SLA printers? We don't know, but it should be interesting to see. Read more about this pending announcement at: http://3dprint.com/4011/xyzprinting-new-3d-printers/

    What do you think?

Well, the way others talk about the DaVinci, I assume XYZ's business model is to make their profit on propretary materials while selling their printers at cost. SLA would be very difficult to fit into this model without going out of the way to make it so in the machine's design. More likely they would try to make some variation on the PolyJet or paste extruder processes, as those fit very well into a "proprietary material" business model.

Last I checked, they still have yet to release daVinci 2.0 (2 extruders) and 2.1 (2 extruders + touch screen) to the US market.

I can't say I'm eager to see what's next in their line-up. The current word is their mechanisms are fine, but the software is terrible (they might be breaking an open source licences too), the filament is chipped and the firmware doesn't just take g code except in a very roundabout manner, one is by overwriting the demo part file, the other is converting & encoding files to their odd format.
