Since Seemore the turtle had her shell damaged by a boat 8 years ago, there have been many efforts to repair the damage and deal with its consequences. Recently the staff at her exhibit in the Mall of America teamed up with students from the University of Minnesota to attempt to create a new prosthetic for her shell that can deal with the many complicating factors in her environment. The students began their work in June and are using 3D printing to create the prototypes. Its possible that the technology will be used to create the final shell prosthetic as it lends itself well to creating just such customized objects.
