A team of researchers from Carleton University is working to create a 3D printer that can entirely replicate itself with material found on the moon. Such a printer could be used to create an entire factory on the moon. That moon factory could be used to build habitats and anything else astronauts might need on the moon, and can even be used for space-based solar power, which involves satellites with solar panels beaming sunlight energy down to Earth. In addition, the technology could be used to build space shields to protect the Earth from solar radiation, slowing global warming.
