MakerBot Reaches Distribution Agreement - Good News!

This is great news for MakerBot. Now other companies will be able to resell the Replicator printers! Should make it easier to get one, and make 3D Printing a bit more popular.

MakerBot, a company focusing on desktop 3D printing, has announced a relationship with Ingram Micro Inc., a wholesale technology distributor and a company focusing on IT supply-chain, mobile device lifecycle and logistics solutions.

In a release, MakerBot said that Ingram Micro is now authorized as a U.S. distribution partner for the Company, bringing MakerBot products including the MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer, the MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner, as well as the MakerBot 3D Printing Ecosystem, to resellers throughout the United States.
"Teaming with Ingram Micro is expected to allow us to reach more resellers in the U.S. that can now sell our products directly," said Mark Schulze, vice president of sales for MakerBot. "We get calls every day from direct marketers and resellers asking for a relationship with MakerBot, and now, we can work with more of these companies through Ingram Micro, and expand the MakerBot 3D Printing Ecosystem. It's a pretty exciting time as we see more rapid adoption of 3D printing and scanning not only in the engineering, architecture and industrial space, but also with more cutting-edge consumers."

Under the new agreement Ingram Micro will distribute MakerBot products, which include the MakerBot Replicator 2 Desktop 3D Printer, the recently released MakerBot Digitizer Desktop 3D Scanner, MakerBot MakerWare Software, and MakerBot Filaments.

This could be a response to HP's announcement that they plan on making affordable 3D Printers. MakerBot needs to make sure they are the Number 1 printer out there before more companies like HP come out with their own. Name recognition will be big in this industry.

That's a very good point. If HP beats MakerBot to the punch, they would have had a tough time rebounding. I really forsee MakerBot being a major player, no matter what large companies try to challenge them.
