    Customizable 3D Printers?

    Hey guys,

I'm toying with a new concept-- what would you guys think of a service that allows users to customize prosumer FDM printers based on their needs-- that way, they get their mostly-ideal machine without paying for any components they don't want to pay for. I've been looking for something of the sort but haven't managed to find anything.

    Any thoughts?

Yes that would be great. Some startups such as Symme3D also offer many variants of the same printer to accommodate for the different customer niches.
The challenge with a modular system is keeping overall costs within limits. The 3Drag printer is a good example of modular construction because it uses standard components and connection elements. I believe you first need a good vision for your product and brand, appealing to key customers, and then offer customization as a secondary value.
