Strange issue after Thermocouple 0 issues.

I have been having issues with Thermocouple 0 so I have been printing exclusively with the left extruder. Originally I left the thermocouple 0 connected and what I was seeing was that sometime during the print of using the left extruder it would decide to try to switch to the right one which was not at temp and had no filament loaded. At first I thought I had sliced it incorrectly with simplify3d, but confirmed it was all set to tool 1/left. So I tried printing it again without making any changes to the file and it got to a different point and it happened again. The left extruder stopped and the right extruder was over the part where it should be putting out filament. I am using octoprint which had never had an issue until I ran into problems with the right thermocouple. So next I disconnected the right thermocouple, fan and heating element and although I received an error when the machine booted that it was not connected and it showed n/c on the display I was able to start printing again. This time I was able to get through 2 prints without a problem so I thought I was in good shape while waiting for the replacement part to arrive.

Today I started another print using the left extruder with the right disconnected and after about 6 hours it appears to have done the same thing. The right extruder was tracing the part and the left had stopped extruding.

I rebooted the machine/octoprint and reset the machine to factory settings and then tried a smaller print to test it. After about 20 minutes the same thing happened. Does anyone else have any experience with something like this? I have read several other removing an extruder completely so I thought this should work, but is it possible that the removed extruder has to be tool 1 and not tool 0? My next testing steps will be to take octoprint out of the equation and print directly from SD while I wait for the replacement part.

    Thanks,
    Jeff

start with octoprint. Something is changing tools during the print and it's unlikely to be simplify3d.
Either print directly via usb or via sd card.
personally I'd have started by taking octoprint out of the equation.
Is it a long walk from your computer to your printer ?
Otherwise why not simply just use the sd card ?

Thanks for the response. The printer is in another room, but no its not too big of a deal to walk back and forth. I had done about 50 or so prints with octoprint with no issues since installing it and it only started having problems after I think I caused an issue with the wiring for the thermocouple on 0. So I quit using Right/0 until I get the new part to replace it this coming week, but almost every print since that happened has had this problem. And it doesn't do it in the same area of the print the first time it might go to around 20 percent and then I notice that the wrong extruder is over the print and I can stop it. Clean things up and restart it again with the exact same file from simplify3d and it might go to 70% or even finish.

After disconnecting everything yesterday except the motor for tool 0 I sent a small job to it to see if maybe that would clear things up and it didn't even complete the first layer before it switched tools. I will try that same job now, but use the SD card and see if that gives me different results.
