The Pentagon has recently revealed their testing of low-cost surveillance and attack mini-drone swarms, which, according to the Department of Defense, will be deployed to jam enemy defense systems, blanket areas with small sensors, or even function as attack weapons. These mini-drones, called Perdix, have a 3D printed outer-mold, enabling them to be rapidly produced at a lower cost than traditional manufacturing would allow. Developed by military services and the Pentagon’s Strategic Capabilities Office (SCO), the Perdix was designed to bode well with enemy weapons and extreme temperatures, and are also capable of being launched from the flare dispensers of fighter jets.
