When children are subjected to medical equipment, it can be very scary. Dr. Ken Stewart fo the Royal Hospital for Sick Children is using the handheld Artec 3D scanner to prevent children affected by Microtia from having to undergo an MRI in order to develop their implant. It's a small portion of the overall medical intervention required for these children, but goes a long way to easing the burden of fear. 3D printed models are used to help surgeons craft the final implant but the hope is that one day the implants will be able to printed directly.
