Japan-based media artist Akinori Goto has created a 3D printed structure based off of the idea of the zoetrope, a pre-cinema animation medium that was invented back in the 19th century. In Goto’s rework of the zoetrope form, he sends a light source into the sculpture, which produces the illusion of ballerina-like dancing. With his latest 3D printed structure, Goto has already won both the Runner-up Grand Prix and the Audience Award during the Tokyo-based 2016 Spiral Independent Creators Festival, an annually held festival for next-generation artists and artwork.
