Researchers at the University of Sheffield have developed a new way not only to deliver drugs within the human body, but also opened up the potential for countless new applications due to their 3D printed micro-rockets which are composed of silk scaffolds and hold enzymes able to react, cause bubbles, and propel the devices forward. The secret is in reactive inkjet printing (RIJ), responsible for making the rocket shapes. For this project the scientists used a MicroFab ‘Drop on Demand’ printer with four separate nozzles.
