Researchers at The Swiss Federal Institute of Technology (EPFL) at Lausanne have made their own evolution in studying ours. In examining the salamander, they are learning a lot about the human body too, in terms of skeletal structure and how it affects movement. While they’ve done research on salamanders previously, now the team has created a 3D printed robot. While printed on a much larger scale than your normal salamander, the Pleurobot is quite realistic in its S-shaped movements—and even a cute little face. The hope is with this 3D printed robot that they will find ways to help paraplegic patients and amputees with improved neuroprosthetic devices, as well as improving on the world of 3D printed robots.
